Hydrophobic and/or oleophobic coating on microstructured glass surfaces providing an anti-fingerprint effect

A hydrophobic and/or oleophobic coating on microstructured glass surfaces providing an anti-fingerprint effect, obtainable by using a composition providing a hydrophobic and/or oleophobic coating on microstructured glass surfaces, comprising (a) 0.1% to 10% by weight of at least one alkylsilane conforming to the general formula 1 SIR<1>R<2>R<3>R<4> wherein R<1>, R<2> and R<3> each independently is chlorine or an organic residue containing 1 to 17 carbon atoms, 3 to 35 hydrogen atoms, 0 to 6 oxygen atoms, 0 to 31 fluorine atoms, 0 to 31 chlorine atoms, and 0 to 5 nitrogen atoms, and R<4> is an organic residue containing 1 to 17 carbon atoms, 3 to 35 hydrogen atoms, 0 to 6 oxygen atoms, 0 to 31 fluorine atoms, 0 to 31 chlorine atoms, and 0 to 5 nitrogen atoms, (b) 0.01% to 10% by weight of a reactive silicone conforming to the general formula 2 X-(-O-SiR<5> 2-)p-Y wherein X and Y each are independently selected from the group of Cl, OH, oxime, acetoxy, O-Alkyl, O-Aryl, O<->A<+> (A<+> selected from the group of alkali-, alkali earth-, amine-, ammonium-, phosphonium-, and sulphonium- ions), R<5> residues can be same or different and independently selected from the group containing alkyl, aryl, trimethylsilyl, partially fluorinated alkyl with or without additional heteroatoms in/at the sidechain, p is an integer of 5 to 10000, and (c) a solvent

Apple's iPhone 3G S sports 600MHz chip, oleophobic coating

One of Apple's wireless partners is confirming Wednesday that the new iPhone 3G S indeed sports an embedded ARM processor that's 50 percent faster that the one employed by its predecessor. Meanwhile, Apple has provided its recommendations for cleaning the the handset, which is finished with an oleophobic coating.600MHz iPhone 3G S chipT-Mobile of the Netherlands is amongst the first to publish specifications for the iPhone 3G S's processor and onboard memory, noting that the device includes a "600 MHz-processor" and "256 RAM."This revelation appears to confirm a detailed forum post from a Chinese insider that was first brought to light by AppleInsider early last month. Specifically, it noted that the new iPhone would look identical to the iPhone 3G but feature a 600MHz chip and 256MB of on-board RAM, compared to the iPhone 3G's 400MHz processor and 128MB of RAM.As was reported a few weeks later, the 600MHz chip was rumored to be based off ARM's v7 Cortex reference designs, the successor to the ARMv6 chip currently employed in the second-generation iPod touch and iPhone 3G. However, AnandTech is now claiming it's the same ARM Cortex A8 found in the Palm Pre.It's widely expected to be the last iPhone chip to be based off ARM's broadly available reference designs, with future iPhones expected to include ARM chips with proprietary Apple technology implemented by the company's recently-acquired team of engineers from P.A. Semi.On Tuesday, AppleInsider confirmed the iPhone 3G S's graphics core to be the PowerVR SGX.Oleophobic screen coatingMeanwhile, Apple has noted on its website the new iPhone 3G S's screen is finished with a "fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating" not found on the iPhone 3G. To clean the screen on the 3G S, the company recommends users simply wipe their iPhone’s screen with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove oil left by their hands and face. These cleaning instructions differ somewhat from "soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth" recommended for cleaning the iPhone 3G

iPhone 3G S Oleophobic Screen Coating makes it Fingerprint-Resistant
We just heard that iPhone 3G S has a faster processor and double the RAM.
Some folks who have been digging through Apple's iPhone 3G S tech specification page have stumbled upon another nice but minor change.
iPhone 3G S screen will come with a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating, something that is missing in earlier iPhones.

Fingerprint smudges on the iPhone's screen have been a minor but frequent complaint from users. Being a touch screen device, Apple's iPhone has always had a problem where greasy fingers would leave fingerprints on the screen. It also accumulates natural skin oils while making a phone call as the screen frequently gets pressed against your cheek. Although, the fingerprints and oil-marks are not very noticeable (due to the ambient light sensors), they become easily visible when the iPhone is kept in a slightly tilted position or is looked at from a distance.

As iPhone 3G S Oleophobic (Oleo means Oil) screen coating will prevent any fingerprint marks or smudges from sticking on the screen.
The screen shot below shows the iPhone 3G S technical specification page.

The cleaning instructions for iPhone 3G also differ from that of the iPhone 3G S. The iPhone 3G screen-cleaning requires users to use "soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth" but for iPhone 3G S screen, a dry clean cloth is all that is needed. This simplifies the cleaning process and reduces the moisture related damages, which used to happen due to the usage of a moist piece of cloth.
I personally don't use any screen cover on my iPhone 3G and the way I clean my iPhone 3G is by wiping it off my t-shirt. But I agree that a fingerprint riddled iPhone screen is not a pleasing site so its nice to see Apple giving iPhone 3GS screen an oleophobic coating to address a minor annoyance.
